Teleos Names Asia's Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises    [Date Added : 10/11/2012 ]
Teleos, in association with The KNOW Network, has announced the Winners of the 2012 Asian Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises (MAKE) study. The 26 Asian MAKE Winners were recognized at a special Awards Ceremony at the 13th annual World Knowledge Forum, held in Seoul. Samsung SDS was recognized for the third time as the Overall Asian MAKE Winner.

A panel of Asian-based Fortune 500 senior executives and internationally recognized knowledge management / intellectual capital experts selected the Winners. The panel rated organizations against the MAKE framework of eight key knowledge performance dimensions - visible drivers of competitive advantage and intellectual capital growth:

- Creating an enterprise knowledge-driven culture
- Developing knowledge workers through senior management leadership
- Innovation
- Maximizing enterprise intellectual capital
- Creating an enterprise collaborative knowledge sharing environment
- Creating a learning organization
- Delivering value based on customer/stakeholder knowledge
- Transforming enterprise knowledge into shareholder/stakeholder value

Successfully managing enterprise knowledge yields big dividends. The 2012 Asian MAKE Winners' average Return on Revenues (ROR) was 14.5% - 3.9 times that of the Fortune 500 ROR company median. The average Return on Assets (ROA) for the 2012 Asian MAKE Winners was 9.7% - over 3.8 times that of the Fortune 500 ROA company median.

2012 Asian MAKE Hall of Fame

A total of 94 organizations have been named Asian MAKE Finalists since the Asian MAKE research began in 2002. And, of this group, only 56 organizations have been recognized as Asian MAKE Winners.

An even more select group of organizations form the 2012 Asian MAKE Hall of Fame. These 10 organizations have been Asian MAKE Finalists in each of the past five annual studies: Eureka Forbes, Infosys Limited, Korea Water Resources Corporation, MindTree Limited, POSCO, Samsung SDS, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Steel, Toyota and Wipro Technologies.

2012 Asian MAKE Winners

The 2012 Asian MAKE Winners are:

Arup Hong Kong (Hong Kong SAR, China)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Arup Hong Kong for creating a knowledge-driven enterprise culture and collaborative enterprise-wide knowledge sharing. Arup Hong Kong is a three-time Asian MAKE Winner.

Lup-Moon Lui, East Asia Chairman, Arup, states: "Arup has a reputation for pushing the boundaries and delivering creative, holistic solutions. Asian Development Bank (Asia)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized the Asian Development Bank for developing knowledge-based products/services/solutions. This is the second time that the Asian Development Bank been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

Seethapathy Chander, Director General of the ADB Regional and Sustainable Development Department, concurrently Chief Compliance Officer and Principal Director of the Office of Information Systems and Technology, said: "Knowledge propels development forward and enhances its effects. To achieve benefits for the poor in Asia and Pacific, ADB's corporate strategy mandates our organization to develop, mobilize, and apply knowledge solutions from which it will distill and disseminate lessons, and to distribute knowledge in ways that have both immediate impact and catalytic force. The MAKE surveys play an essential role in gauging and driving our efforts to this end. I am very pleased that, for two consecutive years, the priority that ADB is giving to knowledge solutions has been recognized on the international scene."

Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. (China)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized the Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. for transforming enterprise knowledge into stakeholder value. This is the first time that Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

According to a spokesman from Baosteel, "It is a great honor for Baosteel being awarded as one of the winners of the 2012 Asian MAKE Award. We regard it as our greatest driving force of the development of knowledge management in Baosteel. Thanks to the organizer for providing such a good opportunity for us to share our experience and exchange ideas for further development of KM practice globally."

The spokesman continued: "Being an innovation-driven company, Baosteel looks forward to improving the ability of our self-dependent innovation, promoting intellectual capital for efficient operations, and realizing the application of corporate intellectual assets continuously with the powerful effect of knowledge management, so that we can face the fierce competition more confidently."

China Merchants Bank (China)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized China Merchants Bank for creating value from customer knowledge. This is the first time that China Merchants Bank has been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

Director of Training Center, China Merchants Bank, Dr. Kaiwei Luo, said, "It's a great honor to be granted for this award which is the recognition of good knowledge management performance of China Merchants Bank. On behalf of China Merchants Bank, I would like to show my greatest gratitude to the organizer. The China Merchants Bank will unceasingly take efforts in creating scientific knowledge management system."

"This award shows that China Merchants Bank becomes one of the top Asia Enterprises in the field of concept and theory of knowledge management as well as the transformation of knowledge into productivity to add shareholder value. Meanwhile, this award demonstrates that our efforts have been fully recognized."

Dr. Kaiwei Luo continued: "In a knowledge-based economy, learning is the key to mining the productive potentiality of the new technology as well as the personal sustained growth, and can determine the future of individuals, enterprise, and even the national economy."

China Merchants Securities Co., Ltd. (China)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized China Merchants Securities Co., Ltd. for creating value from customer knowledge. This is the first time that China Merchants Securities Co., Ltd. has been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

According to a spokesman from China Merchants Securities Co., Ltd., "It is a unique honor to receive the Asian MAKE Award. China Merchants Securities is the first Chinese securities company to win it. Our company is committed to increasing customer value through our superior financial services and to promoting progress of the securities industry."

"To this end, we conduct knowledge management based on our company's long-term strategy. This endeavor has brought tangible benefits, including improvement of work efficiency and promotion of work quality through innovative customer services. We not only convey the knowledge of China Merchants Securities to our customers, but also help our customers transfer their vision into our products."

He continued: "We foster partnerships with our customers on the road to growth. China's securities industry has entered a challenging transitional period that places greater demands on effective strategy development. eClerx Services Limited (India)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized eClerx Services Limited for transforming enterprise knowledge into stakeholder value. This is the first time that eClerx Services Limited has been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

PD Mundhra, Co-Founder and Executive Director of eClerx Services Limited, stated: "Analytics is a knowledge business, and so knowledge management is a critical foundation of our core business model. Our substantial investment in our KM ecosystem allows us to continuously enhance the quality of services delivered to clients, while making this delivery more resilient and process driven. Eureka Forbes (India)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Eureka Forbes for creating value from customer knowledge. Eureka Forbes is a four-time Asian MAKE Winner.

Mr. Suresh L. Goklaney, Eureka Forbes Executive Vice Chairman, said: "The most satisfying success of our KM initiative, EuroShare, has been engaging and empowering people at the grassroot level through knowledge sharing. This is the engine that enables our 8,000 strong 'Eurochamps' to contribute more meaningfully."

"Phone-a-Friend, our Knowledge Helpline, integrates the mobile system for our people on the move with our knowledge assets via our electronic KM platform. Our 'Eurochamps' in the field can readily access our 'Tacit Knowledge Power House' of Subject Matter Experts directly from customers' homes. Hence, they handle customers more confidently and the organization gains new customer insights through the queries that are raised. We also gave them a voice in managing their company through a unique governance model, Euro Senate, comprising of elected representatives 'of our people by our people for our people.' It became our eyes and ears in the field."

Hong Kong Productivity Council (Hong Kong SAR, China)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized the Hong Kong Productivity Council for developing knowledge workers through senior management leadership. This is the first time that the Hong Kong Productivity Council has been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

Mrs. Agnes Mak, Executive Director of HKPC, said: "As a prominent industry support organization in Hong Kong, HKPC is committed to be the most preferred productivity partner of businesses and the community at large, striving to enhance the competitiveness of industry for sustainable development. Our human and intellectual capital is the cornerstone of our corporate values. Winning the 2012 Asian MAKE Award is indeed a recognition of our dedication to implement a comprehensive Knowledge Management (KM) strategy to generate values for our stakeholders."

Infosys Limited (India)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Infosys Limited for developing knowledge-based products/services/solutions. Infosys Limited is a 10-time Asian MAKE Winner.

Mr. Srikantan Moorthy, SVP and Group Head, Education & Research, Infosys Limited, said: "It is with great delight that we acknowledge the Asian MAKE award 2012, marking the 10th year that Infosys has won this recognition. Knowledge Management at Infosys continues to play a pivotal part in creating and sustaining a culture of knowledge sharing aimed at supplementing our strong focus on continuous learning and enabling us to bring our best to every client engagement."

Ms. A. Latha, AVP and Head, KM Group, Infosys Limited, said while acknowledging the award: "It is our singular privilege to be recognized as an Asian MAKE winner for the tenth time. At Infosys, learning and knowledge sharing are being integrated continuously to enable better value realization from our employees. Korea Water Resources Corporation (S. Korea)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) for maximizing enterprise intellectual capital. K-water is a five-time Asian MAKE Winner.

Vice President Wan-Kyu Kim of K-water, who is also the CKO (Chief Knowledge Officer), expressed his gratitude after receiving the recognition, saying: "I am delighted that K-water was honored with the Asian MAKE Award once again and it is a great chance for the management system of K-water to be developed on a global scale. Knowledge Management in K-water has encouraged organizational learning and has transformed enterprise knowledge into a shareholder/stakeholder value. This was highly recognized by the panel members."

Larsen & Toubro Hydrocarbon (India)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Larsen & Toubro Hydrocarbon for creating value from customer knowledge (1st place). Larsen & Toubro Hydrocarbon is a four-time Asian MAKE Winner.

Mr. K. Venkataramanan, CEO & MD, Larsen & Toubro Limited, stated: "It is indeed heartening to note that L&T Hydrocarbon has won the MAKE Asia award for the fourth time. Sustaining a winning streak is an important achievement and it shows the maturity and deep rootedness of the Knowledge Management processes within the organization."

He continued: "KM has travelled a long distance since the year 2001 at L&T Hydrocarbon and has evolved over time. From having a key focus on capturing of tacit knowledge in the initial days, it has moved to collaboration and now in the current phase the focus is on KM embedded in business processes. In this phase, our attempt is to embed all the key business processes in KM, making KM a way of life for the whole organization."

MTR Corporation Limited (Hong Kong SAR, China)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized the MTR Corporation Limited for creating a knowledge-driven enterprise culture. This is the first time that the MTR Corporation Limited has been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

MTR's Operations Director, Dr. Jacob Kam, said, "It is a great honor to receive the Asian MAKE Award. The recognition underscores our dedication to staff development and knowledge management."

"MTR aims to be a leading multinational company that connects and grows communities with caring service. To realize that vision, we launched our Learning Organization initiative, encouraging a corporate culture of continuous learning, sharing and innovation. The strategy will help develop our next generation of experts and support our growth."

He concluded: "The Asian MAKE Award will encourage us to keep pursuing the power of knowledge so we can improve our customers' quality of life, both in Hong Kong and in cities around the world."

Neusoft Corporation (China)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized the Neusoft Corporation for developing knowledge-based products/services/solutions. This is the first time that the Neusoft Corporation has been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

Senior Vice President and CTO & CKO of Neusoft, Dr. Zhang Xia, said: "We are delighted that Neusoft has been honored as one of the 2012 Asian Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises (MAKE) Award Winners for the first time. POSCO (S. Korea)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized POSCO for its enterprise-wide collaborative knowledge sharing, and creating value from customer knowledge. POSCO is a seven-time Asian MAKE Winner (including 2011 Overall Asian MAKE Winner).

Samsung Electronics (South Korea)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Samsung Electronics for maximizing enterprise intellectual capital. Samsung Electronics is a two-time Asian MAKE Winner.

Samsung SDS (South Korea)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel recognized Samsung SDS for creating a knowledge-driven enterprise culture (1st place), developing knowledge workers through senior management leadership (1st place), and organizational learning (1st place). Samsung SDS is an 11-time Asian MAKE Winner (including 2007, 2009 and 2012 Overall Asian MAKE Winner).

Sang Woo Yoon, CKO of Samsung SDS, stated: "It is a great honor to receive the 2012 Asian MAKE Award. Samsung SDS always strives to achieve human oriented and work integrated knowledge management system. We have opened a new knowledge management system, Arisam 3.0 which focused on knowledge-based work collaboration and wiki-based knowledge evolution. It has powerful knowledge quality function and adopts social network system unlike the previous knowledge management system."

Siemens China Limited (China)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Siemens China Limited for creating a knowledge-driven enterprise culture. This is the second time that Siemens China Limited has been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

Siemens China President and CEO, Mr. Mei-Wei Cheng, said: "Siemens has been operating in China for 140 years since it brought the first pointer telegraph to China in 1872. Innovation is the bloodline of the company. We are honored to receive 2012 China & Asian MAKE Award for two consecutive years, which proves our efforts and exploration in knowledge creation and innovation are remarkable. What we are doing now is to make every employee carry on the tradition of knowledge management, know the expertise we have, and create new know-how for the future, in order to maintain our innovative edge and achieve sustainable growth in the coming years."

Singapore Armed Forces (Singapore)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized the Singapore Armed Forces for transforming enterprise knowledge into stakeholder value (1st place). The Singapore Armed Forces is a three-time Asian MAKE Winner (including 2010 Overall Asian MAKE Winner).

Brigadier General Lee Shiang Long, Head of Joint Communications and Information Systems (HJCIS) and Deputy Chief C4I of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), stated: "The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is honoured to receive the Asian Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise 2012 Award. Winning this award three years in a row is strong endorsement of the SAF's efforts to build our Knowledge Enterprise."

"The Knowledge Enterprise is vital to preparing our people to meet new operational challenges. This year, we embarked on an effort to enhance our learning tools using new media devices and state-of-the-art pedagogies. We call this project 'LEARNet,' or Learning Network. LEARNet connects expertise, ideas, knowledge and even lessons learnt from across the SAF and operational front-lines. This brings the most relevant, current, and content-rich online lessons and training to every soldier in the SAF."

He added: "To cultivate a constantly learning and innovating environment in the SAF, we encourage our soldiers to innovate from ground up and develop useful applications to improve productivity. One such application is a mobile app known as 'MyIPPT' that helps our National Servicemen better plan and manage their exercise regime to prepare for their physical proficiency test. Together, we hope that these initiatives will strengthen the roots of our Knowledge Enterprise by honing our learning and innovating culture."

Tata Consultancy Services (India)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for creating value from customer knowledge, and transforming enterprise knowledge into stakeholder value. Tata Consultancy Services is an eight-time Asian MAKE Winner.

Mr. A. Srinivasan, Vice President and Global Head, Knowledge Management, TCS, said: "TCS is extremely honored to be recognized again in 2012 as Asian Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises (MAKE) Award winner. We attribute this continuous recognition to our relentless pursuit in leveraging knowledge in all key enterprise business processes. Tata Steel (India)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Tata Steel for transforming enterprise knowledge into stakeholder value. Tata Steel is an eight-time Asian MAKE Winner (including 2008 Overall Asian MAKE Winner).

Mr. H.M Nerurkar, MD of Tata Steel Ltd., stated: "It gives me immense pleasure to know that Tata Steel has been awarded the Asian MAKE 2012. It's a matter of satisfaction and pride for people in the entire organization who are involved in the journey of Knowledge Management. Knowledge Management has been one of the fundamentals for Tata Steel's improved performance and a strong competitive edge. Toyota (Japan)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Toyota for developing knowledge-based products/services/solutions, and maximizing enterprise intellectual capital. Toyota is a 10-time Asian MAKE Winner (including 2002-2006 Overall Asian MAKE Winner).

Toyota Astra Motor (Indonesia)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Toyota Astra Motor for creating value from customer knowledge. This is the second time that Toyota Astra Motor has been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

United Tractors (Indonesia)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel recognized United Tractors for developing knowledge-based products/services/solutions. United Tractors is a three-time Asian MAKE Winner.

Djoko Pranoto, President Director of United Tractors, said: "The year of 2012 marks the 40th anniversary of United Tractors and our contribution to Indonesia. Our consistent aspiration - to assist our customer to become successful by utilizing our comprehensive understanding of them - has become our winning formula to grow and to survive all these years. Wipro Technologies (India)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel recognized Wipro Technologies for creating a learning organization. Wipro Technologies is a 10-time Asian MAKE Winner.

Devender Malhotra, Chief Quality Officer, Wipro Technologies, stated: "Knowledge Management is one of the critical success factors for any IT organization's growth as the intellectual ability of its employees is a critical component to its success. At Wipro, Knowledge Management encompasses all stakeholders -- our employees, our customers and even our suppliers. KM penetration at grass root level and innovation are the key levers for our delivery teams to delight our customers."

He added: "It's very encouraging to receive the recognition from KNOW Network at Asian level for all our efforts to bring about a Knowledge revolution within Wipro."

Woods Bagot (Australia)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized Woods Bagot for its enterprise-wide collaborative knowledge sharing. Woods Bagot is a four-time Asian MAKE Winner.

Ross Donaldson, Woods Bagot Group Managing Director, said: "Our knowledge capability is at the forefront of our business and is used to inform all our design projects. To be recognized for our knowledge management and research initiatives is incredibly rewarding."

"Our commitment to research was initially based on seed capital for research projects; however over the years this has evolved into a comprehensive design, client focused and cultural philosophy that is at the forefront of how we design."

He concluded: "It is this investment in both capturing and sharing knowledge that is enabling us to bring to life our next generation global studio vision; and that being said, we are extremely humbled to be recognized again for how we achieve our outcomes."

WorleyParsons (Australia)

The 2012 Asian MAKE panel has recognized the WorleyParsons for creating value from customer knowledge. This is the first time that the WorleyParsons has been recognized as an Asian MAKE Winner.

Brian Adams, WorleyParsons CIO, stated: "It is a real honor to be ranked amongst Asia's Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises.
